| Learning to rest… Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30 I don’t know about you, but it seems as time goes on, life wants to bring more concerns, tension, and pressure. I am increasingly aware that I need to learn how to rest in the Lord and His promises. Not only are there physical benefits to finding that place of peace and complete confidence in Him, I believe we can be of more use to God when we learn to live under His hand, trusting like a child. We can’t enjoy life when we’re hurrying and worrying; rest brings peace of mind. Stress harms our bodies. We all know that, yet we let it continue day after day; rest brings better health. Relationships suffer when we don’t make them a priority. It takes time to sit, talk, and listen to one another. It’s important to have fun together, too. Rest brings stronger relationships. We live in survival mode when our schedules are too busy. You can’t hear God speak when your mind is cluttered. Rest brings usefulness in ministry. Join me on this quest to find the place of confidence and peace in God. I believe Psalm 91 calls it the “secret place.” When we live from that place our lives will be more effective and more fulfilled in every area. |
